Holy Cross

Walker Creek (visit WRW) can be seen on the left, Holy Cross Creek in the middle. The path leads from 20 km. Walker FSR into the heart of the Holy Forest. The whole drainage is old. The old hemlock and cedar forests are protected as Old Growth Management Areas but the upper elevation spruce and balsam stands are not. The steeper, rocky areas are covered with a dense hemlock canopy and a mossy forest floor.  Nature's perfect water filter. The brown patches along the lower slopes of Holy Cross Ridge (facing the logging road) are dead trees. These stands were dried out in the mid 1990's then finished off by hemlock loopers.  The fabulous cedar on the shady wet side survived.
